What You Can Expect from this Course
In Unit 1, after a brief introduction to the course from Dr. Schwartz, we dive right into communication – why it’s essential, why it’s hard, and how to get better at it – from moderating our daily interactions to navigating heated arguments. They will also learn one strategy for working through those more chronic communication issues to create greater understanding of a partner’s needs in a relationship.
The lessons in this unit focus on the little things that add up – those small behaviors that over time drag down a relationship as well as little things you can do to make it and keep it strong.

Dr. Schwartz has published 22 books and regularly makes television appearances including Married at First Sight on A&E. Through her work, she shares research and advice on such topics as dating in mid-life, marriage throughout the lifespan, communication strategies, and more.
Dr. Schwartz is a Professor of Sociology at the University of Washington in Seattle. She holds a B.A. and an M.A. from Washington University in St. Louis, where she was a Woodrow Wilson Fellow, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from Yale University.
